Gary Clyde Laughlin Obituary

Gary Clyde Laughlin, 71, of Chesapeake, VA (formerly of East Providence, RI), passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 5:38 PM.

Gary was born on November 25, 1953, in Providence, RI, to the late Richard and Dorothea (Washington) Laughlin. He attended East Providence High School, OIC of Rhode Island, and was formerly a member of The Carpenter’s Union of Rhode Island. He was a contractor and an expert carpenter for 40+ years in RI, CA, MD, and VA, owning his own businesses throughout his career. He learned and applied his exemplary skills under the direct tutelage of his father Richard Laughlin, while collaborating with his brothers at his side. During his training and early employment, he worked together with his father at L. Vaughn & Company in Rhode Island before venturing out to begin his own carpentry career. He also served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Gary loved spending time shooting pool alongside his wife Donna, listening to live music, dancing, and just enjoying life and having an enjoyable time with his many, many friends and family members. Whenever you saw Gary, he was never without a big smile, open arms, and a profound sense of humor. He loved to joke and play pranks and everyone around him was always brought into his mischief. You would always laugh and have such a wonderful time when you were in his company. Many great memories were made by all at places such as The CV Club, Port Arthur's, Washington Tap, 650 Club, Masonic Temple,Tillie Kings, and the Shamrock Cliff Hotel in Newport, just to name a few. He also enjoyed fishing and became a resolute Washington Redskins/Commanders fan. He was a loving dad to his dog Bo, and cats; Jazz, J.J., and Pepper.

Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife/soulmate of 45 years Donna Maria (Silva) Laughlin, formerly of Providence Rhode Island. His nine siblings: Cora (Laughlin) Rose, Marsha (Laughlin) Snead, Richard "Ricky" Laughlin, Lenora "Lee" (Laughlin) Johnson, Cheryl (Laughlin) Burrell, Steve Laughlin, Brian Laughlin, Paul Laughlin, and Neal Laughlin. Also by his sister-in-law; Toni-Ellen (Silva) Brown of  Adelphi, MD, and many nieces, nephews, great-neices, great-nephews, and godchildren. He is also survived by his uncle, Osie Laughlin of Rhode Island.

Gary will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering integrity, mentorship, and guidance to his siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and family. All so unconditionally loved this man.
