Obituary of Joshua David Lloyd

Please share a memory of Joshua to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joshua David Lloyd was born on April 18, 1992, in Columbia, SC, to Debra Burgess
Lloyd and the late Frankie Darryl Lloyd Sr. On Monday, March 10, 2025, Josh left this
world unexpectedly at his home in Norfolk, VA, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter,
and unforgettable memories.

Josh was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Frankie Darryl Lloyd Jr.; his
cherished grandmother, Edith Howard Burgess; his grandfathers, Roland Burgess Sr.,
Frank Lloyd Sr., and James A. Norman; four uncles, Jerome Shephard Burgess, Calvin
Eugene Burgess, Clinton Burgess, and Quinton Burgess; his dear aunt, Clara Burgess
Collins; and his great-aunt, Dr. Irene S. Houston.

From an early age, Josh had a spark—one that made people gravitate toward him. He
grew up in Clarendon County, where he excelled in school and graduated with honors in
the Class of 2010. He went on to attend the University of South Carolina, embracing
every moment of being a proud Gamecock.

Josh’s faith was deeply important to him. As a child he was actively involved in Royal
Rangers and other youth activities at Great Commission Ministries in Lake City, SC.  As
a young man he spent two years at Living Grace City Church and Clarksburg House of
Prayer, where he served as a sound technician and led weekly worship and prayer. His
love for music, both in faith and in life, was undeniable—you could always hear him
singing or whistling a tune before you even saw him.

His journey led him to Virginia Beach, where he poured his heart into the culinary world.
Josh worked his way through some of the best kitchens in the area—starting as a sous
chef at Princess Anne Country Club, becoming head chef at Bay Local, and later taking
on the role of executive chef at Pacifica. But it was at Stockpot where he truly made his
mark, earning the name "Chef Josh" and bringing people together through his love of
food, creativity, and camaraderie.

Josh was more than a chef, a brother, a son, or a friend—he was an experience.
Whether you knew him as Josue, Bob, ESPN2, or Coach, he had a way of making
everyone feel special. His energy was contagious, his laughter infectious. He was
mischievous yet kind, adventurous yet deeply grounded. Wherever Josh went, the good

times followed—whether on the ballfield, in the kitchen, at the card table, or just hanging
out at home. He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into something magical, filled
with music, stories, great food, and even better company.

Our world is dimmer without him, but those who were lucky enough to know him will
carry his light forever.

Josh leaves behind a family who adored him: his devoted mother, Debra Burgess Lloyd
of New Zion, SC; his sister, Dana Lloyd (LaRhonda Howard), and his beloved niece,
Na’Miah Howard of Atlanta, GA; his brothers, Frankie G. Davis (Melissa) and adored
nephew, Kharter Noell Davis of Columbia, SC, and Kashawn S. Lloyd of Columbia, SC;
and his treasured nephew, Torian Omari Lloyd of Aiken, SC (and his mother, Kendra
Harris).

Also left to cherish his memory are his beautiful grandmothers, Mrs. Verdelle Simon
Morris of Columbia, SC, and Mrs. Linda Ann H. Lloyd of Gadsden, SC; his uncles,
Francis Howard (the late Arlene) of New Haven, CT, and Roland Burgess Jr. (Jannette)
of Alcolu, SC; his aunts, Thelma Burgess Mobley of Turbeville, SC, Ranina Myers-
Outing of Columbia, SC, and Tiffany Lloyd of Columbia, SC; his great-aunt, Cora Lee
Lloyd Joyner of Gadsden, SC; his great-uncle, Ernest Lloyd (Lula) of Gadsden, SC; and
Mary Howard (Jimmy) and cousin Jennifer Howard of Columbia, SC.
Josh’s heart was big enough to embrace so many. Special places in his heart were held
by Mariah Culpepper and his bonus sister, Aisha Epps. And the love for him extends far
beyond family—the Virginia Beach restaurant community, his lifelong friends, cousins
who were like siblings, neighbors, and classmates who became family.

Josh was a force of nature—his kindness, humor, and passion for life left an indelible
mark on every person he met. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he
made will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Rest easy, Josh. The cuisine,  music, the laughter, and the love you shared will never
fade.
