At the age of 12, PJ was diagnosed with Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disorder, and was told she would never have children or live past the age of 18. Defying all expectations, she lived with the disease for 47 years, becoming one of the longest-living individuals with Scleroderma.Despite the many challenges she faced, PJ lived her life with strength, resilience, and a deep love for those around her.
PJ was preceded in death by her mother, Romayne Elizabeth Bland; her father, Othello Bland Sr.; and her sister, Joan Blackston. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Kristen and Shana Terry, and her beloved grandson, Na’ir Fletcher of Virginia Beach, Virginia, whom she cherished beyond measure.
She is survived by her sisters, Monique Brister, Sandra Wilson, and Aliza Sykes; her brother, Othello Bland Jr. (Freda); and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will continue to honor her memory.
A celebration of PJ’s life will be held at Chesapeake City Park in Chesapeake, Virginia, on May 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
