AE1 Kenneth F. Custy, Jr., USN-RET passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, September 9, 2019. He was 58 years old. He was the son of Catherine and the late Kenneth F. Custy, Sr., of Raynham, MA. Ken is survived by Riza, his devoted wife of 28 years. He also leaves his two sisters, Patti Maggio of Chesterfield, VA; Nancy Gorden & her husband Michael, of Raynham, MA and a brother, John Custy, of Norwood, MA. He will also be missed by eight nieces and nephews.
Born in Weymouth, MA, Ken grew up in the communities of Rockland, Pembroke, Raynham & North Attleboro, MA. He graduated from Bristol County Agricultural High School in 1979, working in landscaping & sales for several years following graduation. Throughout his life, he continued to enjoy landscaping & horticulture. He also enjoyed fishing.
He made his career in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1983 and retiring in 2003. He achieved the rank of Aviation Electrician’s Mate First Class, receiving several achievement awards. Ken served at naval bases in Jacksonville, FL, Key West, Virginia Beach, Hawaii & Japan. He also served aboard the USS Saratoga. Ken had a zany sense of humor and was nicknamed “Joker” by his shipmates, since he was well-known for his good-natured pranks & practical jokes.
Following his retirement, Ken was employed in retail / sales, most recently at H.H Gregg, where his friendly, sociable nature & strong work ethic contributed to his success & popularity with his customers.
Respecting Ken’s wishes, no services will be held. Condolences and messages of remembrances are welcome through this site.
