Please share a memory of Minister Orla to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Orla Mae Martin, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at her son’s home. Orla, a resident of Norfolk, Virginia passed away to glory at the age of 83 surrounded by her beautiful and loving family. Orla Martin blessed her parent, Helen J. Atkins with her birth on January 15, 1937, in Norfolk, Virginia. She had one sibling, Sherman Atkins(Janie), of Norfolk, Virginia. Orla Martin spent her life in Norfolk, Virginia. She married the love of her life, whom her husband Ernest S. Martin(deceased) calls her, “His Prime Rib”, Orla Mae Martin on February 23, 1957. She and her beautiful groom celebrated 63 years of marriage. They were not only joined together as husband and wife, but also by the calling of God to serve in ministry together. She loved her family dearly. She was blessed to have 11 children; Vanessa Featherston, Ernest Martin, Jr. (Deceased), Ronia “Tina” Martin, Keenan Martin (Deceased), Timothy Martin (Ernestine), Paul Martin, Verlina Edmonds-Martin (Maurice), Michael Martin (Patricia), Reginald Martin, Delano Martin (Joanna), and David Martin (Shelby). His family blessed him with 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Orla Martin was a phenomenal woman. She was the hardest working, no nonsense, and most God-fearing person. She was a bi-vocational tor. She was employed with Added-Dimensions’ Clothing Store as Top Salesman for over 25 years. One astonishing fact about Orla in her 25 years of working with Added Dimensions, she knew how to dress and dress other women, and carry herself as a lady. Orla Martin was all about family. She always shares how God did exactly what He promised and her family was never in need or want. Orla is the founder of the El-shaddai, Women Pastors in the Tidewater area. Orla Martin had written on her license plate Titus 2:3-5. 3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children. 5To be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Orla was a kind and generous woman, a loving and supportive wife, mother, a powerful minister, a prayer warrior and a humble and devout child of God. She freely gave of what she had to her family, friends, children, and even complete strangers. Her faith in God was so strong and unshakable. Her and her husband’s daily prayers were truly praying without ceasing. The power that flowed from their prayers was so evident that one could not even watch them pray without feeling surrounded by the Spirit of God. Orla Mae Martin accepted her call to the ministry, became an ordained minister and continued to serve the Lord for the rest of her life. She and her husband was the founding pastors of Full Gospel Church of Deliverance in Norfolk, Virginia. The church continues to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 56 years. Orla have ministered all over the world. God used her until the very end and is still using her and her ministry through people. Her example is one that will live on through many lives that have been impacted as a result of her faithful ministry. Orla Martin continued to follow her husband most valued legacy for Full Gospel Church of Deliverance, 1 Chronicles 28:7-10 “7Moreover I will establish his kingdom forever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day. 8Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you forever. 9And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off forever. 10Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.” The Legacy continues to be fulfill through her children and Full Gospel Church of Deliverance. Orla Martin had many favorite gospel songs that she loved to sing. “Thank you for it all”. “In the middle”, and “Worth It” just to name a few. She also had favorite quotes. “It is not who’s right but what’s right”, and “the best you do you are subject to error”. Orla Mae Martin will be lovingly remembered forever by her children, Vanessa Featherston, Ronia “Tina” Martin, Timothy Martin (Ernestine), Paul Martin, Verlina Edmonds-Martin (Maurice), Michael Martin (Patricia), Reginald Martin, Delano Martin (Joanna), David Martin (Shelby), and Ronald McCloud(Audrey).
