Obituary of Larry Ray Daugherty
Larry Ray Daugherty, 79, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on October 29, 2022 in the hospital with his family by his side. He was born on January 10, 1943 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to William Alvin and Gladys Pearl Daugherty.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine (Kitty) Gray Daugherty and his children Deanna (Eddie) Steele, Tina Daugherty, and his “favorite” son Jeffrey (Kelly) Daugherty, a nephew, David (Jo) Daugherty, grandchildren Shawna (Anthony) Forbes, Victoria Steele, and his great grandchildren Joshua Weisinger and Hailey Forbes and three great nephews.
He is predeceased by sister Gloria, brother Bill and grandchildren Matthew, Katie and a great-grandson Nathan, and his beloved Rotties – Cheyenne, Dayzee and Bella.
Larry graduated from TJ High School in Council Bluffs, married the love of his life, joined the US Navy, was a proud Navy veteran and served for 23 years where he rose to the rank of CWO3. In the Navy he lived in Bremerton, WA, Vallejo, Torrance and San Diego, CA, Guam and Philadelphia before retiring in Virginia Beach. After retiring from the military, he worked as an instructor for the Royal Saudi Navy for 12 years, drove an 18-wheeler, and was the proud owner of 6 Pringles vending machines. He enjoyed watching the Tour de France, and occasional Nascar race and NCIS reruns. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who taught them the importance of working hard, being honest and loyal.
There will be a private interment at Albert G. Horton Memorial Cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2022. A celebration of life will be held on March 18, 2023.
