Obituary of Samuel Otis Miller
Samuel Otis Miller departed this life on Tuesday November 29, 2022, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Born on May 2, 1953, He was a native of Danville, Virginia and the son of the late Pearlie Eddie and Louise Coleman Miller. Samuel was baptized at an early age and was educated in the public schools of Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
On April 26, 1992 he was united in matrimony to Robin Lanier.
In 1998 he relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia. He became affiliated with Cathedral of Faith COGIC where his wife remains a member. He was employed by Waverton Associates Inc where he remained until his health declined.
Although his quiet spirit will be missed, “when asked” there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help anyone.
Lots of fond memories will be enjoyed in conversation of the coming years for the man known as Sam, Uncle Sam, Unc, Brother, Honey, Poppa and Otis to name a few.
He leaves with cherished memories his wife, two children Larry Carter and Samatha Cole and six grandchildren, four devoted bonus children Darryl Lanier wife Tranequa of Apex NC, Charita Mills husband Recardo, Derrick Lanier wife Brittany all of Chesapeake, VA and Darnisha Morris of Junction City, Kansas. Also surviving is eight sisters Thelma Parson of Chesapeake, VA., Linda Wilson, Emily Thomas husband William, Edith Coleman husband Jerome, Brenda Barksdale husband James, Loria Jumper husband John all of Danville, VA., Janice Jeffers of Richmond, VA., and Selisa Miller of Greensboro, NC. He was affectionately called “Poppa” to eight additional grandchildren ZyKerria,Zechariah, Zabeyun(Charita), Kendall, Kirsten(Darryl), Brinden(Darnisha), Derrick Jr., and Donald(Derrick). One goddaughter Symphony McClary, one godson Lamar Lee and two god
granddaughters. Twenty-one nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Sam has two additional brothers-in-law Christopher Lanier of Chesapeake, VA., and Jeffrey Lanier of Danville VA.. A few very close friends William Ferrell(Bill) of Danville, VA., Calvin Thomas of Chesapeake VA and two very dear friends Emanuel and Marilyn MacCracken of Chesapeake VA.
He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers David, Howard, and Eddie Junior Miller.
