Obituary of Bonnie Louise Meredith

Bonnie Louise Meredith, daughter of the late Charles Louis and Maxine Elizabeth Garrett was born on May 2, 1947, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  Bonnie was the third of seven children and is preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Maxine Garrett as well as three brothers and a sister, Ronnie, Preacher, Charles, Jr and Ruth.

Bonnie accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown where Reverend Redd was Senior Pastor.  She grew up in a loving home with both of her parents and her six siblings.

Bonnie attended grade school at Bond Washington Elementary School where she met “the love of her life”, James Cecil Meredith.  The two were wed August 20, 1962.  Soon after their marriage, James joined the US Navy and Bonnie began her life as a Navy wife.  From this union three children were born: Jannelle of Houston, TX, Jason of Norfolk, VA, and Troy of Midlothian, VA.

Bonnie was a woman of many talents and had a love for baking, sewing, and gardening.  Her French Pudding and German Chocolate cakes are legendary.  Uncle Bubba and Aunt Bonnie’s cookouts were always amazing. Their home was the hub of the entire family, and she truly loved her family.  Bonnie was a self-taught seamstress and could make anything from draperies to wedding dresses.  Growing her plants was another joy of Bonnie’s life.  She could make anything grow and surrounded herself with an array of plants and flowers.

Bonnie was also a faithful, loyal friend until the end. She was always available to lend a listening ear, support and encourage you whenever needed. Some of her friends have been in her life for 30, 40 & 50 years. That is a talent that not many people can boast. She will undoubtably be missed.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 60 years, James, her children: Jannelle, Jason, and Troy (Erica): her nine grandchildren: Johnathan, Philip (Bria), David, Jason, Ja’llena, Je’Shona, Ishmael, Jordan, and Adyson, seven great-grandchildren: Talaya, Landon, Chayson, Blaine, DJ, Cayden, and Cali.  Two siblings, Georgeanne (Fred) and Lisa (Thomas) as well as a host of beloved brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
