Richard Vincent Shortt “Rick” went home to his Heavenly Father on the 4th of August 2023, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Son of Ellen B. Shortt and Gilbert E. Shortt III.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Beth Gregory Shortt,
his four children, Mary E. Hughes, George V. Simpson, Randi Nicole Simpson, Richard "Daniel" Shortt and Cullen James Shortt.

He is also survived by his brothers, Gilbert J. Shortt, wife, Melissa Kasse Shortt, Thomas Shortt and David Shortt.
Father & Mother in-law, Donald E. & Mary B. Gregory.
Brothers and sisters in-laws.  Donna & Mark Schnieder, Donald "Edward" & Meda Gregory, Amy & John Dudley, Mark & Karen Gregory, and Sarah Gregory & Rich Smith.
Rick loved his six grandchildren, Siena N. McIntyre, Cayden J. Hughes, Teagan S. Hess, Tobias Taylor, Liam B. and Lilly A. Simpson.
Rick loved his nephews and nieces. He was so proud of them all.

Rick was very family oriented and loved when everyone was together, it is what made him happy. He wanted all his friends and family to know he loved them.  He proudly served the city of Virginia Beach as a Deputy Sheriff for over 30 years.

Rick enjoyed volunteering at his church and always asked for the weekly prayer list so he could know who to pray for.  He helped all when needed and enjoyed fixing lawn mowers and donating them to those in need.
