Anita Cuffee

Obituary of Anita Yvette Cuffee

Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anita Yvonne Cuffee, 73, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2024.  She was a native of Norfolk, VA, and was born the youngest of three children to the union of the late Linwood Branch & Elizabeth Thorne. Anita attended the public schools of Norfolk, VA and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1968. She went on to earn an undergraduate degree at Virginia Union University and a Master of Arts degree in social work from Norfolk State University.

Anita took pride in her 30-year career of working with troubled youth throughout the Hampton Roads region. She was most proud to have spent half of her career working as a probation officer for the Portsmouth Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. During her tenure she worked tirelessly to help her probationers to succeed and go on to become productive members of society.   Anita was a certified Substance Abuse Counselor and used her knowledge to help youth in both Virginia Beach and Chesapeake Juvenile Detention Centers.

Anita was a life-time member of the Historic First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk where she was baptized at an early age.  At First Baptist she served as an usher, on the Praise Team, volunteered with the SHARE program, and was a member of the medical emergency team.

Anita was passionate about spending her downtime reading a good book, fishing with family and friends, and making jewelry she loved to wear and share with others. Anita also enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys on any given Sunday. You could also find her on the open road taking road trips to explore new places and finding the best seafood restaurants in town. While enjoying her favorite ice cream, butter pecan.

Anita leaves to cherish her memory; her son Rayminton Cuffee, Jr, and his wife Adrienne Cuffee. Two sisters, Carole Ricks and Brenda Pierce. Two nieces, Mesha Ricks Hayes and Monique “Mikki” Adams. Two grandchildren, Rayminton Cuffee, III and Anthony Cuffee. She will also be missed by her God children, Octavia and Terrell Madson and many other family members.
