Obituary of John D. Brown
Surrounded by his dear wife and family, Our God dispatched an angel to bring home to rest the soul of our beloved John Darrell Brown. Darrell, as he was affectionately known, was born March 2, 1958, in Littleton, North Carolina to John Wesley and Ernestine Brown. Darrell was predeceased by his brother Kevin S. Brown. Darrell was the eldest maternal grandchild and big brother to his siblings and cousins. Darrell was educated in the Norfolk Public School System. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, later dedicating his life to Christ and worshipping at First Pentecostal Church of Christ Holiness. He was active in the Food Service Ministry and Floral and Beautification Ministry.
Forever leading with authenticity, his contagious smile and willingness to assist others was often seen in the support he rendered to his devoted wife of seventeen years. He supported her with grace in all aspects of her community and church affiliate activities. Darrell could often be found in his kitchen cooking and serving all who enjoyed his meals, especially his famous sweet potato pies and pineapple upside down cakes. He enjoyed all genres of music and news media as he often had compassionate discussions rendering his perspectives. He was a man who supported and spoiled children, he stood for truth, wore the title of Uncle proudly often neglecting himself to ensure that those in his midst were accommodated. Darrell believed in," Living His Best Life" as he enjoyed the simplicities of life and being surrounded by friends and family, John Darrell Brown's mantra was always" Love one another, stick together and God is Good"
Darrell gave much service to the food industry while employed at Mary Jane Bakery, Piccadilly Cafeteria, Morrison's Cafeteria and Aramark on the Old Dominion University Campus. He was also employed with Harvey Nash Construction.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mrs. Sandra Marie Killebrew Brown, his parents John W. and Ernestine Brown, of Virginia.
Darrell leaves to lift his legacy three children Temika Hyman (Eric), Terrence Hyman of Virginia and Tiffany Dawsey of Alabama. Three surrogate daughters Sonia McCoy (Terry), ShaWonda Kelsey
(Lenzie), and ShaRonda Killebrew of Virginia; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Dr. Barry C. Brown (Sonya), Terry R. Brickhouse (Renee) and Shawn M. Brown (Tiffany) of Virginia; three sisters: Delphine B. Tucker (Michael), Jena Hall of Virginia and Trena M. Moore ( Holland) of Delaware. His loving host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and friends stretch beyond a bloodline.
