Obituary of Eugene H. Jalbert
Eugene Henry Jalbert, age 80, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024. He was born on September 28, 1944 in Haverhill, MA, to the late Henry Joseph Jalbert and Cecile Sarah Jalbert. He was affectionately known to everyone as “Gene”. Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carol Ann Jalbert, and their two daughters, Renee Sarah Jalbert and Nicole Susan Jalbert. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Alperin and her husband, Tobe, of Rotunda West, Florida, and his brother Richard Jalbert of Haverhill, MA. Gene was predeceased by his sister Ann Hansen and her husband, James. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years in the field of aviation maintenance, retiring with the distinguished rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his military service, he continued his career as a Service Manager in the automotive industry for 25 years, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike. A true car enthusiast, Gene had a lifelong passion for anything with four wheels; especially his treasured Ford Thunderbirds. He delighted in collecting miniature models and sharing his love of cars with others. NASCAR weekends were a favorite pastime, often enjoyed with family and friends.
Gene will be fondly remembered for his big heart, his gift for storytelling, and his willingness to help anyone in need. Known for his famous phrase, "to make a long story short," Gene never missed an opportunity to connect with people, whether friends or strangers.
A dedicated family man, Gene’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering work ethic left an
indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Virginia via www.alz.org, in his honor.
Gene's legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
An additinal memorial service in celebration of Gene's life will be held in the spring of 2025 in Massachusetts, details will be announced at a later date.
