It was an honor to be your colleague, Sid. I miss our doorway conversations when our offices were next to each other.
My condolences to Sid's family - he was a great colleague and he always had some good stories to tell.

Here are not enough words to describe the Essence of Sidney. Probably one of the smartest people I will ever know. A dear friend and fellow Taurean whose personality often caused a standoff of opinions but none that could not be resolved over our love for seafood and chicken wings. I enjoyed his critique of my wardrobe and his selections of items I should consider outside my usual go to items.
Sidney was both complicated and simple— actually his simplicity made him complicated. He found nothing too difficult. And he could explain anything although I was often not able to understand what he called simple and easy. I will miss his challenges and his banter. He would talk to anybody and immediately captivate them with how much he seemed to know about everything.
I shall remember him fondly. I am happy that he joined Geneva and me on our last two adventures to Ireland and Alaska.

I met Sidney 27 years ago when I had just completed graduate school. From the moment I met Sidney in the tutoring center at HACC he was immensely supportive and helpful to me as he was with his students. We really got to know each other these past four years while we shared an office. Whenever I needed advice Sidney always had the very best and it inevitably came in the form of a story from his past. We spent countless hours chatting about life and family and politics. He was so proud of his wife and children and grandchildren and nieces and nephews. I will cherish our friendship always. My love to Geneva and the rest of the family.

I was very sad to learn about Sydney's passing. One of my most precious memories is from our trip to Alaska in 2019. Geneva and Sydney entertained my grandson at dinner every night. Andrew loves telling jokes and riddles and Geneva and Sydney were incredibly gracious in entertaining him and even included him in several of their photos. Andrew loves math so he and Sydney became quick friends. I am very glad that we had that time together.
On behalf of my mother, Jean, and my grandson, Andrew, we love you and miss you. Much love to Geneva and her family.
Warm regards, Kate

Prof. Johnson, from the first day I met him he was a kind man, a man that was a wealth of knowledge. I love to converse with him on any subject, but he was a wiz when it came to mathematics. One of my greatest conversations with Prof. Johnson was on economics, one thanksgiving we sat at the table and talked for hours, I love to hear his philosophy on the day to day economics. Prof. Johnson was truly a treasure and will be deeply missed. The bell has rung the angles are singing a tune well done Prof. Johnson.

With profound sadness and heavy heart, I am writing to share some sweet memories of Sid. Sid was always a gentleman: kind, warm, and mild-mannered. During my last two years at HACC, I shared the same office with Sid. We chatted, laughed, and shared stories of our families. He often shared stories of his young Kung-Fu days with Mike, my husband.
When Sid talked about Geneva, he had a glow in his eyes. He spoke highly of her, her accomplishments, and her ambitions. When Sid talked about his children and grandchildren, he had such a big "smile". They were his stars, his "shining stars". When one granddaughter was ready to go to college and was waiting for the admission decision, he spoke of her achievements with a "proud grandpa's smile"! When Sid showed off the picture of his twin grandsons, his eyes were glittered with pride and joy!
Sid loved Chinese foods. We often visited the local Chinese buffets with Mike and another colleague. We all enjoyed the dinner menu and joked about paying the lunch price at 3 pm! We just sat, ate, chatted, laughed, and had second, third...servings! We had a grand time enjoying each other's company.
I had been Sid's colleague for over 25 years and always enjoyed his friendship, his kindness, and his "cool"! He will be deeply missed. Please give lots of hugs to Geneva.
"Enjoy life leaves a trail of beautiful memories!"
With Deepest Sympathy,
Pauline Chow
