Please share a memory of Prof. Sidney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Prof. Sidney Rochelle Johnson, Jr. 74, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Sidney was a native of Denver, Colorado and the fourth of ten children born to the late Sidney Rochelle Johnson, Sr. and Imogene Morgan. Sidney graduated from Manuel High School in Denver and earned both a Baccalaureate and Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He was a tenured professor at Harrisburg Area Community College in Harrisburg, PA, where he taught mathematics and applied computer science. Sidney was truly a gem and always a pleasure to be around. He had gentle soul and a wonderful sense of humor. Sidney was a brilliant provider, and he was always supportive and looked for the good in everyone. He was dedicated to his family, friends, helping his students and coworkers. His dedication to others often led to him working long office hours making himself available for his students and colleagues. Despite Sidney’s rigorous work hours, his excellent work ethics prevented him from complaining. He served as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a role model to countless others. Sidney was a faithful member of St. Paul’s AME church in Milton PA. He also enjoyed a multitude of other activities, including fishing, golfing, playing chess with his son Sydnei and his cousin Reggie and of course math. He was a connoisseur of food, especially Chinese food. Sidney truly lived life to its fullest. Left cherishing his memory are; his wife of 52 years, Geneva M. Walker-Johnson; his daughter Janeene D. Russell and son Sydnei D. Johnson; four siblings Cloyce M. Harlan, Delores M. Churchill, Frank Churchill, Balenda L. Shuler; grandchildren – Dominique S. Hydell, Bryanna M. Johnson, Aaliyah J. Russell, Toniyah M. Russell, Isaiah D. Johnson, and Jordan C. Johnson; great grandchildren – Scarlett V. Hydell and Xavier C. Hydell. Sidney was preceded in death by his siblings – Loretta Rudolph, Emma Jean Grose, Marjorie R. Churchill, Jimmy L. Churchill and Louise T. Mitchell and a host of other family members and friends thereby paving the way for a joyful reunion in the heavens above. Acknowledgements The family of Sidney Rochelle Johnson Jr. wishes to thank everyone for their kindness during his illness and homegoing. Your sympathy, prayers, calls, offers of assistance, food, flowers and services rendered are deeply appreciated. A private memorial service will be held Monday, January 11, 2021. Friends and family are encouraged to view the service live via the link below, or by visiting waltonfuneralhome.com I’m Free Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free.
