I had the pleasure of working collaboratively with Melanie when she was a teacher, a department chair, and as a Dean of Students. We worked together to revise and edit mathematics curriculum and units for teachers to use across the district. Melanie was a consummate professional and was extremely creative. When I became the district coordinator, Melanie was chosen as department chair at Lake Taylor and attended a math conference with me in West Virginia. She was a wonderful traveling partner and was so eager to learn and share math tips with others. I will always remember sitting in her office, looking at math materials, or simply having a conversation about our lives. We shared a lot in her office, sometimes even personal information, and she was always willing to share her stash of pretzels with me. I remember her loving care and compassion for her mother during her illness.
I admired and adored my friend Melanie and respected her professionalism and commitment to the students in Norfolk.
