Obituary of Melanie Vanliere

Melanie Vanliere was a native of Fair Haven, New York and the daughter of the late Mary and Jack VanLiere. Melanie lost her battle with numerous health issues at home in Virginia Beach. She is survived by sisters; Margaret (Roger) LaDue, Marlene VanLiere, cousin; Mary Pat Hutchings, nephew; John LaDue and her lifetime best friend Kathy Wilson Carlin. She was a long-time educator in Norfolk Public Schools for 42 years, one year at Willard, then 35 years as a Titan and six years as a Commodore. Melanie was a teacher first and always. Over the years, she wore many hats, teacher, homework hotline, dean of students, department chair of Math, SOL testing coordinator, and assistant principal. Melanie was a great listener and was always fair to both the students she taught and those she had to discipline. Melanie was a great mentor and friend to a lot of people. She never wanted to be in the spotlight, just a support person behind the scenes. She would give you the shirt off her back and never take credit. She rescued many labs over the years which gave her much joy and love. She enjoyed working outside gardening as well as reading a good book. She will be dearly missed by many. Melanie will be taken home to Fair Haven, New York to rest with her mother and father. No formal service will be held due to COVID-19 restrictions. Donations can be made to Virginia Beach SPCA
