Paul Calvin Gillis a true Aberdeen legend! He helped me grow from a boy to a man. Bought me my first car which was a 78 el camino which he had me work off (with hard labor lol). He would pay me to shovel snow or cut grass for elderly people he knew couldn't do it for himself! Rest easy my friend. Much love to his family and friends

Mr. Gillis worked with me as a Corrections Rehabilitation Counselor at Southampton Correctional Center. He mentored me and prepared me for my promotion. I learned alot from him pertaining to Civil Rights. I will miss my mentor, friend and co-worker. I'll be Praying for the family during this difficult time.
Gillis and I served in the Army together and have remained friends for many years. He would often come down to Alabama to visit me and I would come to Virginia and visit him. We talked on the phone daily and he always impressed me with his knowledge and insight regarding current events. I will miss my friend and his daily conversations, but I know he is now at rest, and I hope to see him again. My condolences to Della and his family and I pray God continues to strengthen you in the days to come.
Q: How did you meet Paul?
A: I served with Gillis in the Army for several years and we remained friends after we had both retired. We stayed in contact with each other over the years. I am sorry to hear of his passing but I know he is now at rest. I extend my condolences to his family and pray God keeps you in His care.
