Obituary of Edwin J. Townes, Sr.

Edwin Townes (Ed or Eddie) departed this life on January 26, 2023, to go dancing with Jesus in heaven at the young age of 86. He was preceded in death by his wife Retha Townes, mother Lois “Joyce” Caprio and stepfather Mike Caprio and brother Mickey Caprio and sister Nancy Frey and survived by his brother Jimmy Townes, sisters Brenda “Caprio” Whited & Linda “Caprio” Springer, and special friend Peggy Lou. He was the oldest sibling in the family.

In 1954 He married the love of his life Retha “Slater” Townes (Tiny Baby) from this union they were blessed with 3 loving children, Eddie Townes Jr., William Townes, Gay “Townes” Marshall, and then blessed with 8 grandchildren Marie, Myra, Willie, Josh, Seth, Virginia Rae, Jordan, and Jed and 7 great-grandchildren.

Ed served eight years in the United States Air Force and three in the reserves. then moved on to the motorcycle and automotive industry, in the earlier years he enjoyed weight lifting and bodybuilding, racing motorcycles, and promoting motorcycle events, he loved snow skiing, boating, camping, and photography. He loved the great outdoors. He was a scout leader and youth group leader and basically carried that through the rest of his life. He loved his family, friends, and just life in general. He never met a stranger. “Go soar with the Eagles”
