Obituary of James Robert Lassiter

On September 1, 2023, early in the morning, James answered God’s call. He died peacefully at home with his wife by his bedside. James was skilled in carpentry, and he attended the Virginia Beach Public School system. James R. Lassiter Jr., 75 of Virginia Beach, VA was born on July 10, 1948, son of the late James R. Lassiter Sr., and Narcissus Vivian Johnson in Virginia Beach, VA. James is favorably called “Billy” by his family and friends.  Wherever he was, whether near or far, Billy never met a stranger as he enjoyed socializing with others. His willingness to help others was remarkable and he always had a story to share. Billy was also known to be an avid Dallas “Cowboys” fan and loved cooking for his family and friends. On March 10, 1984, Billy married the love of his life, Evelyn J. Williams, and was a devoted husband for the past thirty-nine years. Billy will forever be remembered for his big heart which he generously shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them, and he will be missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, Billy was predeceased by his son Bethea O. Williams; and his brother Norvell Coston. His Bonus Mothers Aunt Virginia Brown, and Mother Mary Coston.  Billy is survived by his loving Wife Evelyn J. Lassiter, Daughter Sade Arrington (Jerry Sr.) of Richmond, VA. Grandchildren Shaquille O. Williams of Virginia Beach, VA; Jovante Lillard of Hampton, VA; Jibril Shabazz, Michah Shabazz, Qamara Artis, Jenesis Arrington, Jerry Arrington Jr., and Janae Arrington of Richmond, VA. Great-grandchildren Nazzir Robinson, Aniyah Robinson, and Jersey Williams of Virginia Beach, VA. Siblings - Elder John Coston (Gloria); Shirley Ephran (Jack); Connie Emory (Ed) of Augusta, GA; Doreathea Hughes and Ernestine Thoroughgood of Virginia Beach, VA. Sisters-in-Law; Shirley Conley, Audrey R. Cornick of Virginia Beach, VA, and Brother-in-Law Reuben V. Williams (Jackie) of Virginia Beach, VA. Special cousins Lloyd Brown and Larry Grimstead. Special friends Latif Rashed and David Hall. A host of foster grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
