Obituary of Sherri Suzette Owens
Sherri Suzette Washburn Owens, a spirited and sharp-witted soul, took her final bow in the early hours of February 12, 2024, at the age of 70.
She was born on December 14, 1953, in the heart of California's Central Valley, Suzette was a true product of the small town of Hanford, where she grew up and later shaped her career. A proud alumni of Hanford High, Class of '72, Suzi's early life was marked by a mix of youthful ambition and a flair for the bold. At 20, she married the love of her life, Buddy Owens, embarking on a journey that would see them move from the familiar streets of Hanford to the serene landscapes of Libby, Montana.
Professionally, she left her mark as a respected bank manager, balancing her career with the joys and challenges of family life. Suzi's legacy is lovingly carried on by her three children: Sandy Schewsis, Beth Owens, and Dori Mims. They, along with her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, were the melody to her life's song, a tune she hummed with pride and joy. Her life was a testament to speaking one's mind, a trait she displayed with unapologetic charm, whether in the bank she managed or around the family dinner table. Her candidness, often laced with humor, was as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot Central Valley day. In her final days, Suzette found comfort in Virginia Beach, surrounded by the family she so dearly loved. She passed peacefully in her sleep, concluding a long and brave battle with cancer. Though cancer may have struck the final chord, Suzi's spirit remains undimmed. In her own words, borrowing from John Cougar, "Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone." Suzi's life, filled with love, laughter, and the occasional stubborn debate, was a beautiful song, now echoing in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
As she reunites with her beloved Buddy in heaven, we imagine them dancing to their own rhythm, forever in tune. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association to honor Suzi's courageous fight and her enduring spirit
