Obituary of Steven D. Bowman, Sr.
Steven David Bowman, Sr of Chesapeake, VA passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. He was born and raised in Washington, DC where he lived for 30 years before moving to Virginia. He was the third child of the late Stanford and Joyce Young Bowman, where he accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. Steven graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in Microbiology. Steven met the love of his life while working at Crop Genetics in Maryland. He and
Selece decided to move to Virginia for employment opportunities. Steven worked with the Virginia Dept of Health and retired after 29 years of service as a Senior
Environmental Health Specialist. He was an avid reader and outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. To honor his love of family and heritage he established the John P. Young Hunt Club in Southampton County, Virginia. He has been a member of New Life Church for 18 years and served as Sunday School teacher, Life Group Leader, Zone Servant and Prayer Coordinator. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by many who knew and loved him. He stood firm in his faith, fighting cancer for 28 years and saying to many “I am going to live my life, and not my cancer!”
He is survived by his wife, Selece, and 2 sons, Steven, Jr and Stanford. He has one brother, Stanford W. Bowman, Jr (Marvar) of Houston, TX and 4 sisters, Anita Lambert (the late Robert J., Sr) Julie Dean (Raymond), Hope Taylor and Joy Bowman all from Maryland and a host of colleagues, family and friends.
