Captain Curtis was an awsome CO he gave me a 2nd chance when I went to Captain's Mast. Told me that he wanted to give someone a 2nd chance and it was me. Now I'm a retired Senior Chief LSCS and currently work for Navmac as GS12 as the Functional Area Manager for Inport Division. I wouldn't be retired right now without him so thank you God Speed and RIP Brother

Captain Curtis is the man who signed my Underway Officer of The Deck qualification when I was a Chief Machinist Mate on board the USS Trenton. He took risks in support of those who wanted something more in life and in their career! He took a risk on me in trusting my judgment as a non-traditional rating running his ship at night, and for that, I am truly grateful. One of the fondest memories underway with Capt. Curtis was during a replenishment at sea with me at the conn; I was so nervous, but he was a man of steel-nerves. A true command-at-sea sailor. I, as with so many, are fortunate to have known and served with the man. May God Rest his Soul with fair winds and following seas. <salute>

Curtis Family: Condolences! Here are some comments from USNA Classmates..........
From: Kevin E. Lynch [mailto:usnagrinch@aol.com]
Pat Curtis was a good dude......He’d have a cocktail with ya. He’d be a guy you’d invite home for one too.

Yup. “Fat Pat” was a really great guy. Vicki and I sat with him for about 3 hours on Saturday night at our 35th reunion. We had a very good time with him and his wife. Grinch hit the nail on the head in his description. A NAPS guy! I think he was Larry Mizak’s roommate
Jim <jimbo8478@gmail.com>
Great guy! I was his roommate at naps - he was always in trouble for something - always stretching the rules. Real good athlete - football and wrestling. Fat pat - I woke up more than once at nite due to him throwing up on the floor. He'd do anything for a shipmate - seeing this saddens me- but brings up some hillarious memories. Had a great career in the navy too - one of those guys who many prob thought he'd never graduate, much less make 0-6 and have command. Man he was funny.

Fellow Napster and company mate (17th)...great guy who never complained about anything. A guy with a huge heart who you could always count on for anything. Pat will be missed by many.

I always think back at my time at USNA and think about how great it was that I got to go to NAPS. Even though I hated the fact that I had to wait another year, it was truly one of the greatest years of my life. It was the last year at Bainbridge (Tome School) and it was a really interesting and beautiful place with a lot of history. That year was remarkable in many ways and I met so many really great people. Once we got to Bancroft it was really awesome to have buddies in pretty much every company. You would see guys around the yard and at games, in town and hang out. Everywhere you went you knew somebody, so you really felt more connected to the whole class because you knew all these guys and their friends became yours. Great experience and “Fat” Pat was one of the real characters at NAPS that everyone knew.
Gerry Goodwin, Sturge, Jimbo, Tall, Jocko, Waldo, Scotty Eckert, Jim Leiser, Eddie “The Rabbit” Hubbard, Tommy Dannessa, Tom Littauer… all the jocks at NAPS and Pat was one of the great characters of the whole bunch. He and Gerry Goodwin and Dannessa had a skit they performed at Christmas that was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I stuffed him(Pat) in the back of my TR6 with Steve Gregor in the front seat and we drove all the way to Ft. Lauderdale for a weekend, think it was over Spring Break Youngster Year. He was shit-faced the entire weekend… we had a blast. The guy was a cartoon character and just an awesome guy.

Fat Pat was a good guy. Went to NAPS were I think he wrestled and played football. Last time I saw him was in Hawaii when we were both participating in an Air Force exercise. I was the Senior Marine and he was a rep from MSC. It was good to see him after all of these years. I think at one point during his career he was the navigator on the USS New Jersey.

I was one of his sailors on the Mighty 14. With him at its helm there was no greater gator. I remember his kind words at my promotion ceremony, his questions at my EOOW board and just looking up to him as one of his pit snipes. My wife served as one of his FRG coordinators so we both knew him in the line of duty to his ship. We both looked up to him and considered him one of the best. Our condolences to his family and friends. Fair winds and following seas Sir. You taught us well, we have the watch.

Pat was a good friend to me when I left the Navy several years ago. He helped me get into a new life and was always willing to help me in anyway he could. I could see that he took enormous pride in his work and continuing to help our country be strong. Equally I sensed he enjoyed life and was proud of his family and treasured all close to him. I considered him a great role model of a successful life and his friendship certainly changed my life for the better. Thanks you Pat, thank you family for supporting him. I know his is keeping watch and continuing to help us all from his new position -angel. vr Henry/Scoop

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Curtis family. I too remember Pat in so many ways....plebe summer, Christmas '74 in Decatur, skiing in Colorado, Navy retirement ceremony in 2006. Most of all, I remember Pat's positive attitude no matter the circumstance, no matter the difficulty. He was a true inspiration in difficult times and will be missed terribly. Until we meet again my friend.....

So sorry to read of Pat's passing. Always enjoyed our time in high school, they were great. I'll always remember Pat as being very accepting of all our class mates and adding a little extra when we got together. I remember talking with him a few times at reunions and a couple times there after. One thing for sure, his service was top drawer and he always made us here at home proud. Blessings to Julie and all the family.

My deepest condolences to the entire Curtis family... Although I had lost contact with Pat after we both left the Navy, I will always remember him as being a true friend and shipmate.. He had a terrific sense of humor that made our early days at the Naval Academy Prep School and during our years at the Naval Academy seem that much easier to bear. He will be long remembered for his terrific positive leadership and amazing sense of teamwork! I was honored to know Pat and call him a friend.

To Winnie and family, Mike, Julie, Jill.
I do so much wish I did not have an opportunity to express these sentiments.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I know your feelings and emotions are shared by all of those who had the privilege of knowing Pat, to have interacted with him and especially those of us who had the special privilege of calling him a friend, and there are so many of us.
I concur with all of the generous and sincere outpouring that I have seen offered. They are accurate and all deserved. A Life Well Lived.
Patrick, I remain as I started, so many years and long distant adventures ago, in awe of your capacity and intensity for both the Tough and the Fun, Fair winds, my friend, you will be missed, But so long as anyone remembers and can hear that utterly sincere Laugh (and I've heard it repeatedly every time I thought of you over the last several days) your warmth and spirit will continue. Somewhere, though, your Parents are, again, enjoying that sound. God willing, we will meet again, my Friend.

My most sincere prayers and condolences for Pat and his family. I can remember Pat in so many different ways: Kicking a football 50 or 6o yards; Olympic lifting 250+ lbs; staying at the Washington DC YMCA one night; laughing with Mizak, Joe Rivera, et. al; listening to his navigator stories. Pat's family has much to be proud of and much to miss.

This is to give my thanks for knowing Patrick Curtis since NAPS - since the Summer of 1973. Things seem to be okay just knowing my friends and classmates are there, and losing anyone strikes me hard, for every one of my classmates occupy a big part of my heart and I cherish them all. Pat was a standout in my experience. He is a very, very fine man, a "real" man in my book, and I admire him. Like others I will mourn his passing. He is a memorable part of my life, and for knowing him and having many great times with him in my school days, I am very thankful.
Wishing you all well and hoping you are filled with many happy wonderful memories of this wonderful man that added so much to thousands upon thousands of lives in addition to my own.
Yours sincerely and with sincere condolences

I went to school with Pat at MacArthur High School in Decatur many years ago. Although Pat was two years older than I he was always very personable and friendly. Although I was never an athlete he always encouraged me and was a shining example of a good student athlete. Like his father, Jerry, he was simply a good person. As the years passed, I followed Pat's achievements and was very proud to say I knew him. It is a terrific loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family!
