I was reflecting on what a great guy Ivelin was. I enjoyed his company. He was a good person and he genuinely cared about others. I have fond memories of the time he shared with me. He taught me many things and I am eternally grateful. He still brings a smile when I think of him. His memory lives on. I wish your family well.

I just read this notice this morning, Sunday, April 28, 2019 and couldn't believe my eyes.
I first met Ivelin in the weight room at the old Bow Creek Rec Center and was amazed at his physical strength, lifting incredible amounts of weights. He always had a wonderful smile, and was a humble man. When running into him, his wife and son in the grocery store, I always came away with a good feeling about my life and the pleasure of meeting wonderful people.
I will always remember this incredible man and his appetite for life.

I've had the honor of working with Ivelin for many years in Norfolk. He is one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated people I know in our field, and he never ceased to be such a genuinely wonderful person to all. My thoughts and prayers are with the Velikov family. He will be dearly missed.

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the friends and family of Ivelin. I have had the privelege of working with Ivelin on and off since he started at the Port of Norfolk. He was definetely a gentle giant with a huge heart. He was always ready to do what ever he was asked, his work ethic was admirable and exemplified in all he did. He will be missed dearly. I pray for comfort and healing to those that knew and loved him. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the privilege of working with Ivan at the CES in the Port of Norfolk until I transferred in 2009. Ivan was the true embodiment of a man’s man, he was tough, yet so gentle and kind. I never once heard Ivan complain and he always had a smile on his face. He was the definition of a true family man and he would always light up when he spoke of his family. My heartfelt condolences to Ivan’s family.

My deepest sympathies to Ivan's family for their loss. I always looked forward to working with him when I was at the Port. No matter what the job was, I knew I could count on him to either have the situation in control, or fill the lull with pleasant conversation. He always had a welcoming smile on his face, and his passion and love for his family and Bulgaria were inspiring. It was an honor to know and work such genuinely kind and thoughtful person. While it is a small comfort, please know that he was a positive force on the world around him and he is missed.

To say that Ivelin Velikov was a great person is to say the least. There are no words to describe what a truly great man he was. As a firearm instructor, he was one of the best. If you are having a bad day at the range, you don't want anyone else by your side but Ivelin. His coaching, knowledge, skills, and ability when it comes to firearm were simply off the charts. For those of us who were fortunate to have met and work with him, he will never be forgotten. A true example of a kind and gentleman. My heart felt condolences to his wife and children.

I had the pleasure of being Ivan's supervisor when he first came to CBP in 2007. I still remember when he checked in. He handed me his driver's license and I didn't think the person in the picture was the same person who was standing before me. He had lost a ton of weight and looked great and the driver's license picture looked nothing like him. When he saw me look at the license and then look up at him and then look at the license again, he just stood there smiling. He was so proud of his weight loss! He told me that he had picked up running as a hobby and loved it! He was always professional, polite, and such a gentleman. We haven't worked in the same building for years, but he would occasionally stop into my office when he was downtown to say hello and chat for a few minutes. Rick and I send our deepest condolences to Ivan's wife, kids, and extended family. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

It was always a pleasure to see and speak with Ivelin. Our paths crossed frequently; I was ending my shift and he was beginning his. It was a good way to finish my work day. I especially enjoyed his cast net fishing adventures.
Ivelin always gave off a good vibe and we always had a smile for one another, regardless. There was always a feeling of friendship there; an unspoken trust.
Ivelin helped me to improve as an officer and as a person. I owe him much. He was an excellent teacher, a caring coach and an all around great person. I am grateful to have had him in my life. He will be missed by many, I am sure.

My deepest heart ache goes out to you. I will hold you in my prayers to God and Jesus Christ, who is The Lord of All Grace and All Mercy. Ivelin was a part of my CBP work family and I would see him as he came in to work every day. He always greeted me, was so calm, had the most patience of anyone here. I enjoyed working with him everyday. I am deeply sorry.
